An Unsmart Practice Before Smart(?) Customers.........

The other day, we were having lunch at Star Kebab with a guest from Chittagong as we wanted him to taste Star’s Kacchi Biriani and compare the same with Chittagong’s Zaman Hotel. We saw a whopping number of people were standing to be “blessed” by Star’s luscious foods. After waiting for half an hour and giving a mini marathon in the restaurant at last we triumph over a table. Then we ordered Food and again had to wait fifteen more minutes to get it served.

After shouting for Salad and Borhani we finished the lunch in scurry to come out of the restaurant ASAP as it became intolerable due to roasting atmosphere. When we ask the waiter to bring the bill, he just bends to me and said “How Should I make the bill? Print it from ECR? Manual bill?” I asked “what is the difference?’ he replied “If I print the bill from ECR you must pay VAT and in case of manual bill VAT is not required”. I became astonished to see how a popular restaurant chain eludes tax and asked him to bring ECR bill. Then we observed many of the wealthy, educated customers were paying without ECR bill.

Star Kebab is a popular restaurant chain and most of its customers are from well to do educated families. They are very much concerned about our economic and political system reform. They are dreaming for poverty alleviation and corruption free Bangladesh. But a restaurant is doing malpractice just before these so called young, educated, conscious change makers and most of them are supporting that just for a slight personal benefit. I guess this is common in most of the popular restaurants. But there is none to protest, there is no watchdog to regulate....

There must have watchdogs, but are they perforforming their job properly? I do disagree with you... "But there is none to protest". Today you are doing protest, tomorrow I will.... We should change ourselves first. One day we won't need any watchdog.....
